Orthotics

What are Orthotics?

Foot Orthotics (prescription insoles) correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern.  Orthotics make standing, walking and running more comfortable and efficient.  This is achieved by slightly altering the angle at which the foot strikes a running or walking surface.

Orthotics are known to solve a number of biomechanical problems, not only conditions such as plantar fasciitis but also joint pain and soft tissue overuse injuries.

Who could benefit?

Absolutely anyone!
Sports people: runners, golfers, footballers, ramblers, skiers etc.
Workers who are on their feet all day: police officers, retail workers, nurses, porters, receptionists, postal workers.
Medical: eg. diabetic, rheumatoid, arthritic.

How are FootMed Orthotics made?

If it is determined during a biomechanical assessment that you should benefit from wearing orthotics, the potential options will be discussed.  If a custom made orthotic is deemed most suitable, FootMed uses equipment from Amfit, the world leader in Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).

Each foot is scanned and a 3D digital file is created.  The podiatrist then applies adjustments to the scan to reflect your individual prescription.  The file is then sent to our in house orthotics lab for fabrication.
